Bergerac villas and holiday cottages

Several of our Bergerac villas are within easy reach of this well known town which is a thriving provincial centre overlooking the river with a fantastic market twice a week; nearby is the excellent golf course at Monestier. Bergerac is one of the 18 bastide towns built during the 13th Century by the Kings of England and France who encouraged their developments to extend their influence in this disputed part of France. Other good examples are Eymet, Puyguilhem, Castillonnes, as well as Villefranche du Périgord. West of Bergerac, the river is deeper and wider, flowing past Montbazillac which produces excellent sweet wines on its south bank, while just east are the caves of the Vezere Valley of which Lascaux at Montignac is the most famous.
