FISHING IN PROVENCE
Back
You
do not normally think of Provence in connection with fishing, and yet
it is possible to have tremendous days fishing here.
FISHING
IN THE RIVER IN THE VAUCLUSE REGION, PROVENCE
One
of the best trout rivers is La Sorgues, in the Vaucluse region,
between Isle sur Sorues and Fontaine de Vaucluse. It is also one of the
most beautiful rivers in France. The water gushes out of a deep fissure
at Fontaine de Vaucluse. We do not know where the water comes from. Commandant
Cousteau, puzzled by this mystery, tried to locate its underground source
without success. Whereas the flow of the other rivers of the region is
variable, La Sorgues is always at a constant level and temperature. These
exceptional characteristics encourage the fish to grow quickly. It is
not unusual to catch a 4 to 5 kg fish. Several trout of over 10kg have
been caught between Fontaine de Vaucluse and Isle sur Sorgues.
20
kms of La Sorgues is classified as 1st category. You are fishing mainly
for brown trout and grayling. It may be helpful at least for one session
to go out with a fishing guide and we recommend Jerome Marin. You fish
from the bank, or wade once the grayling season has opened.
You
will need to check the opening and closing dates of the fishing season
shown below for the fish in which you are interested.
The
French Affair houses located 30-60 minutes from La Sorgues are: 301, 303, 304, 330, 331, 333, 341.
