Lot Valley Villa

The River Lot, though less well-known than the famous Dordogne, flows through beautiful and varied landscape.

French Affair has chosen to rent villas in the Lot Valley between Figeac and Villeneuve sur Lot. On the eastern side of this area, chestnut clad hills topped with small pastoral farms provide a marked contrast to the country further west. The river meanders through fields of maize, strawberries and tomatoes, bordered by walnut trees and poplars. You might like to know when planning your next holiday in a Lot Valley Villa that it is particularly beautiful in autumn when the poplars along its bank resemble fountains of gold. Pink, grey and apricot cliffs rear up out of oak and juniper-clad hillside, surmounted by the silhouette of picture-postcard villages such as Cénevières and St Cirq Lapopie. Then, around Cabrerets, the river is joined by its charming tributary Le Célé, whose tranquil and unspoilt valley is well worth exploring. In fact so beautiful are the Lot and Célé valleys that it is remarkable that they remain so utterly unspoilt for Lot Valley villa rentors.

After Cahors, the river twists and turns through vineyards; from the height of the valley flanks, from villages like Belaye, the geometric pattern of the vines running down to the broad loop of the river provide a wonderful panorama.

Not only the Dordogne has its selection of impressive villas, the Lot Valley also offers a good range of renovated stone houses and French Affair has a good selection of special Lot Valley Villas: from the typical windmill of the Villeneuve plateau to the Maisons de Maître either in Sarrazac or Vieux Tilleul, as well as several quality renovated farmhouses.

The Lot has fewer castles than the Dordogne nevertheless they are worth visiting. They range from ruins like Château de Castillon, to private homes like Château de St loup which we offer to rent as one of our Lot Valley Villas. Other châteaux worth visiting are Assier, Laroque Toirac, St Jean de Lespinasse or La Capelle Marival and Bonaguil. Château de Grezels is the setting for theatre and music as well as courses on the appreciation of food. You can rent Lot Valley Villas in both of the last places mentioned
