The River Lot flows through beautiful and varied landscape between the medieval town of Figeac in the East, and Villeneuve sur Lot in the West. The River is never from your Lot villa or cottage as it meanders through fields of maize, strawberries and tomatoes, bordered by walnut trees and poplars. Pink, grey and apricot cliffs rear up out of oak and juniper-clad hillsides, surmounted by stunning villages such as Cénevières and St Cirq Lapopie. Around Cabrerets, the Lot is joined by its charming tributary Le Célé, whose tranquil and unspoilt valley is well worth exploring. Cahors is the main town and has a wonderful market as well as a fascinating medieval centre. Just west of here is the wine growing region, with Puy L’Eveque at its centre. The wine is robust and matches the region's cuisine; local favourites include Chateau Eugenie, Chateau de Chambert and, best of all, Clos De Gamot.
