La Gabelle is situated in Lalinde which is an ancient Royal English Bastide founded in 1267. Nowadays you can still see the original town gate and the old market square from this period. You are under 1km walk from the pretty town centre with its market every Thursday, shops, cafés and restaurants. The river Dordogne flows through Lalinde and it is a good spot for fishing. Just outside Lalinde is the leisure centre of ‘La Guillou’ which has tennis courts, bike rental plus canoeing and kayaking.
The house is a good base for touring the Dordogne region which has endless little country lanes leading to charming villages with ochre walls and some impressive castles. The culinary tradition is one of the exceptional features of this area, and you can be sure to find wherever you are an excellent restaurant or welcoming ‘ferme auberge’ for a meal. It is a good wine area too with Monbazilllac at 25km, Bergerac and Pecharmant at 20km. Caves and pre-historic sites are numerous and Les Eyzies de Tayac 35km away is considered to be the capital of prehistory. Sarlat is 50 minutes drive and is really worth a day trip to explore.
DETAILS OF ACCOMMODATION
An electric gate opens onto the enclosed property of ¾ acre with large parking space, lawn and large swimming pool (12m x 6m). You enter the house into a spacious entrance hall with a piano. To the left is the large living area in an L-shape that comprises a sitting room with leather sofas, armchairs, fireplace, plasma satellite TV, DVD player and hi-fi unit, and the dining room with large table and chairs and two French windows to a terrace; this has teak table and chairs and overlooks the lawn and the pool beyond. Adjacent to the dining area is a door to the fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, 2 fridges and a little table for breakfast that sits four people. To the right of the entrance hall is a long corridor with three double bedrooms, two bathrooms with both bath and shower, two separate wc’s, and a fourth double bedroom with ensuite shower room and separate wc. There is also a utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer.
From the entrance hall a staircase rises to the first floor with a door that gives access to a games room witha pool table, exercise bike, two sofas and a square table with chairs to play games. On one side of the games room are two single bedrooms; on the other side is a shower room, a separate wc and a bedroom with a double bed plus (up some steps) a single bed on a raised mezzanine.
The house is equipped with telephone, internet broadband access with wifi and central gas heating.
