Renting a villa in the South of France is a great and different experience. The style and character of the houses reflect not only the climatic and regional differencies but historical and social ones too. A villa in the South of France nearly always has shutters which helps keep the interior cool in the heat of the day. If you want to keep your villa in the South of France pleasantly cool for the evening, you should open your shutters first thing in the morning, but then close them from about 10.00 am until the evening Hot weather also means that locals live differently. In most villages in the South of France, shops are closed at lunch time. Some shops might be open between mid-day and 2.00 pm in larger towns, but in the countryside this is still not the case and some shops can be closed until 3.00 pm, but they will then stay open much later in the evening.

Please also be aware that shops are usually closed on Sundays. The best you can do is go for lunch in one of these lovely local restaurants ; just and sit and relax and enjoy the lovely pace of life over a long lunch; although last orders are normally around 2.00 pm. The further South you go, the later people go out. Fordining at a restaurant, do not leave your property until 7.00 pm at the earliest to find a restaurant open. If you plan to go dancing then be aware that nightclubs do not opened before 11.00 pm.
